Dawgs Still in the Hunt

The 2012 season was one of high hopes for many college football programs. The University of Georgia, fresh off an SEC championship appearance, was one of those teams. A third year starter at quarterback in Aaron Murray, a defense, that on paper, looked to be among the nation's best, and a relatively easy schedule had many Dawg fans thinking, wondering, PRAYING: Could this be the year? Could UGA be in serious contention for the BCS title?

Earlier on, all signs pointed to yes. The emergence of Gurshall seemed to solidify the running game, Jarvis Jones was being mentioned in Heisman talk, we were on our way... Until that Saturday night in Columbia.

I'll save thoughts on that game, but in short, the Dawgs were flat out embarrassed-- and on national television, too. The guys were outplayed, Richt was out coached, and many Dawg fans saw our season crash and burn right there in Williams-Bryce Stadium.

Now, three weeks later-- coming off a huge win over the jort wearing Gators-- I'm gonna tell you how the Georgia bulldogs are still gonna get their title shot.

Now this could work out in several ways, all of which depend on the Dawgs winning out and two of the other undefeated teams (Oregon, KState, ND) blowing their shot.

Bama-LSU Game:
So obviously the winner of this game is gonna meet the Dawgs in Atlanta come December, barring a crazy upset (lol at the thought of Auburn beating Bama, also lol at Auburn, but I digress).

Say, Bama beats the tigers this Saturday. While everyone in the country seems to be absolutely mystified by Alabama, I think Georgia matches up pretty well with the Tide.

We will know much more about the kinda guy AJ McCarron is after Saturday. Personally, I'm of the opinion that a drugged monkey could perform well at the QB spot for Bama. McCarron's not bad, but when people try and say he's even in the Heisman conversation....just, no.

McCarron's job is so easy because of the man beasts up front blocking for the talented running back crew. The running game, along with the defense, is Bama's strong point. But I'm confident that the Georgia D can live up to challenge of containing the run game (especially if someone pisses Shawn Williams off again). If the Dawgs can force McCarron to beat us, we're in good shape.

While Bama's D is downright nasty, their strength isn't the defensive line, which is nice because UGA's O-line is certainly not our offensive strength. I suspect Gurshall will continue improving up til this game. If we can pound the rock, and get some play action going, Georgia can knock off Bama.

So what if LSU wins? How does Georgia match up with the Tigers? Exactly the way they did with Florida. The Gators and Tigers are very similar teams to me. Quality defenses plagued by limited offenses, especially QB play.

I truly believe the SEC champ is gonna be in the BCS title game for the 378th consecutive year come January. Most seem to believe Bama will run away with the SEC, hell they very well could, but I'm here to say that you can't count out the Dawgs just yet.

It'll take some outside help-- let's go OK State, Texas, USC, Oregon State, and anyone else playing an undefeated team the rest of the season-- but it can happen.

Go damn dawgs!
